For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
Looking at various Christmas tree decorations, I’m struck with the glittery ornaments that reflect the lights that dazzle the eyes. There I stood at the tree the other night at a Christmas party, and while I admired the tree, I noticed my own reflection in an ornament. It was like a curved mirror where the reality around me was evident but in an unclear way.
I was reminded how we, as people of God who have been blessed by His grace and truth, who live in His light of love, reflect His grace, truth, light and love in this world. As light dances off an ornament on a Christmas tree, so does the love of Jesus dance off our lives, our lips, and through our actions. But far from perfect is our reflection of God’s light and love in this world. Far from perfect. It’s distorted for we are by nature sinful and unclean. In those moments when we don’t reflect His light and love well, when our sinfulness dulls, yeah, even blocks the light of Christ from showing, the Spirit leads us to the cross of Jesus to once again encounter the beautiful, shining, dazzling love of God. May His grace glitter in your life for through you, God will lighten up this darkened world.
PRAYER: “Dear Father of Lights, shine in our hearts and minds so that our lives reflect the love of Jesus in this darkened world that so badly needs Your Hope and Peace. Amen.”
Hi Pastor Doria! I haven’t forgotten your blog. It has taken me a couple of days to process and finally I realize that no one has ever connected the dazzling lights, ornaments and reflections as those of our GOD! Usually they are equated with the season’s glittery distractions intentional directing us away from our very God of Light! Thank YOU for this redirection! You should preach on it 🙂 It brings a different beauty into focus!

Maybe it will find its way into my Christmas Day sermon. We’ll see! But thanks for your comment. I appreciate the feedback!
