“For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Matthew 12:50
The context of this passage is one of those situations where some people may see Jesus as being rude. When Jesus’ mother, Mary, and his brothers came to talk with him, Jesus didn’t stop his teaching nor talking with his disciples. Instead, he made a reference, not so much ignoring his earthly family, but a reference of inclusion and promoting to a family status ALL who seek the Lord and do the will of God.
By God’s grace, through faith in Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we do the will of God. For it is Christ who lives in us (Galatians 2:20). How cool it is to be a part of the family of Jesus!
Inclusion instead of exclusion! I’m not sure I’ve ever seen this passage this way!
Ah Ha!
Thanks!
