“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”  Matthew 23:12

Similar to yesterday’s devotion about being first (exalted), we see Jesus again turning the tables on society.  Just as He spoke about service to others, here Jesus speaks about humility.  They go hand in hand, don’t they?  Humble people serve others.  Those who want to be first often seek to exalt themselves.  This doesn’t lead to greatness. However, Jesus demonstrates what ultimate humility is, taking the form of a slave/servant and giving His life for you and me.
