“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”  Matthew 5:16

Standing in line waiting for my white chocolate mocha (non-fat, no-whip) J at the Starbucks in Brenham, TX today, I saw the barista stumble.  She was working quite fast trying to keep up with the demand.  She’s setting down drinks on the counter, calling out the customers’ names, not missing a beat . . . until one large, iced coffee didn’t get set down flat and took a tumble onto its side, coffee and foam oozing out the top lid onto the counter.  She say’s a word she shouldn’t say while working (under her breath but I’m getting pretty good at reading lips).  She picks it up, takes it back and tops it off, returning it back to the counter.  The customer picks it up and leaves.  The barista is in her rhythm again, making drinks and I notice that the counter still has the mess on it from the spilled iced coffee.  There were five other people standing around waiting for their drinks, all closer to the counter than me.  Everyone just standing there.  So I thought I’d help.  I grabbed some napkins off the shelf near the front door, went up to the counter and wiped up the mess.  No one said anything.  I didn’t do it for my glory.  I just did it to help someone.  I know what it’s like on the ‘other side’ of the counter.  I can only hope that my little action of service caused someone in their heart and mind to think, “Huh, that was nice.  Praise God.”
